The Municipality is spearheading the relocation and redevelopment of the Richards Bay Airport to create a modern regional airport that will drive economic growth and attract long-term investment.

  • Registered as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with National Treasury and the Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC) in 2018.
Feasibility Study
  • Full feasibility study successfully completed in November 2023.
Government Support
  • Submission to the Budget Facility for Infrastructure (BFI).
  • Project registered with Infrastructure South Africa (ISA).
Project Components
  • ZAR19 million allocated for land acquisition.
  • ZAR230 million earmarked for bulk infrastructure development.
